(1967- )
Kim Sang Gyun (b.1967) lives and works in South Korea. He makes an exceptional comment about the city and its actual boundaries of interior and exterior space with two visual components. One is the reproduction of facades of whole buildings and another is each facade being formed as a kind of a block which portrays the heaviness it contains.
He found the form of building’s exterior by observing himself. He exactly measured it and miniaturized it into a three dimensional one. Each model got piled up like a brick and got reconstructed looking like a huge scales wall or a surface. In other words, A city form made of millions of concrete facades transfers in a linear perspective almost like a puzzle. Consequently, it gets reconstructed like a huge scale wall or a surface.
Kim Sang Gyun studied Sculpture at Seoul National University (Korea) and State University of New York (NY). He had solo exhibitions at various museums. He is also selected by Vermont Studio Center Freeman Fellowship, SongEun Art Grand-Prix (Korea), and so on.
