Simple motifs—trees, houses, and curtains—and geometric forms in delicate colours form the basis of Hiroshi Sugito’s (b. 1970, Japan) rhythmic compositions. His works commute between the abstract and figurative. In “Hiroshi Sugito: module or lacuna,” the works are placed in the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum’s large underground-level, void gallery space, with walls and floors displaying the special qualities of Kunio Mayekawa’s architecture. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition at a Tokyo art museum.
